How suitable is it for young people

It is suitable because it will prevent anyone under the age of 17 having a baby.

How do I access this method?

Accessing this method is very simple - unlike others. You don't need permission to get permission from anyone and they are available from a lot of places, such as health clinics, supermarkets and even vending machines.

Side Effects and Health Risks

Some side effects and health risks could be that women have to rely on the man’s cooperation to protect themselves from pregnancy and disease. This is because it is very easy for the condom to slip off or tear during sex. There's always a risk of unplanned birth control, even if you use it correctly. In the USA, 1 in every 50 women whose partners used a condom correctly become pregnant.

What are the costs involved?

There are various prices for different brands and types of condoms. The packets come in different sizes, ranging from 6 to 40 packs. Most come in a 12 pack. Cheap ones usually come in big packs like 24 and 40, while good quality condoms tend to come in small packs like 6 and 8. The price range is around $5 to $15.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages of using the male condom are that if you use it correctly, it can provent pregnancies and STD's. They are safe, and have no hormonal side-effects, and are also very easy to find.

Although, there are some disadvantages when using the male condom. Some people are too embarrassed to buy or ask for them, which would mean that you'd have to use another method of contraception if you didn't want to have a baby. Another reason is that some men may find it annoying putting it on every time before intercourse, and especially be annoyed if it didn't fit.

Where is it available from?

Health clinics provide condoms free of charge, though their quality isn't as good as ones you can buy at the supermarket and online.

How effective is it?

By completely trapping all the semen ejaculated by the male, it is very effective when used correctly. Only water-based lubricants should be used with a condom; lotions, oils etc. could break it down. Even though it protects the tip of the penis from transmitting STD's, the areas not covered by the condom, such as the base of the penis and scrotum, can still spread the diseases.
The condition of the condom also affects it's effectiveness.
  • If left in too hot or cold temperatures, it's more likely to break.
  • Old condoms that are past their expiry dates may dry and crack.
  • Tears caused by carelessness will cause the condom to leak.

How does it work?

By covering the tip of the male's penis, it collects and blocks semen from entering the vagina and uterus. By stopping sperm from entering the woman's body, it is also very effective in preventing sexually transmitted diseases (STD's).
